43rd Annual Fall Meet
St. Louis, MO - May 19-23, 2013

Ed Lanfer - Meet Host

On Sunday, May 19th, the hospitality room at our host hotel, The Double Tree by Hilton Collinsville-St. Louis, opened at 11a.m. Registrants soon arrived to pick up their packets and goodie bags provided by club member George Randall of Caseyville, Ill. The afternoon and evening was meet and greet and parking lot time.

Monday, May 20th, we departed from the host hotel parking lot at 9:30 a.m. for trip to view the car collection of Bob (father) and Kevin (son) Huff in east Carondelet, Ill. The driveway entrance to Kevin's home was marked by checkered flags to greet the letter cars as they arrived.

After parking the cars, Kevin and Bob addressed the group, giving us an overview of their collection. We were free to view all of the cars and memorabilia contained in the storage buildings. Numerous old car dealership banners were hanging from the rafters, as well as signs hanging on the walls. Various makes and models are in their collection, including a C300 of Bob's and Kevin's 300B. Among the non-300s were a 1938 Cadillac Series 75 sedan and a 1958 Mercury Colony Park four-door hardtop station wagon.

Bob told me that our group was the best one ever to view their cars. "You are all very knowledgeable car enthusiasts," Bob said to me. A group photo of all in attendance was taken by Bob.

Leaving Kevin's home we drove a short distance to Bully's Smokehouse Restaurant in Columbia, Ill., for a buffet lunch enjoyed by all. The rest of the afternoon and evening was free for sightseeing and parking lot time.

On Tuesday, May 21st, we drove a short distance from the hotel to Fairmont Park horse race track. Arriving at 11:30 a.m., our group had reserved seating in the Black Stallion Room on the second level overlooking the track just past the finish line. Lunch was served buffet style, with peel-and-eat shrimp, just one of the delightful selections offered.

The races began at 1:00 p.m. Many members placed their bets, with Dawn Hyde winning several times. The 300 Club was a sponsor of one race. Everyone had a very enjoyable time watching the races.

Wednesday, May 22nd, was car show day. Arrangements were made with a Culver's Restaurant in the area for hosting our club's People's Choice show on their parking lot. At 10:30 a.m. our cars began lining up in model year order. A total of 14 letter cars arrived for the judging. Several other Mopars were driven to the show and joined our display of fine Chrysler products.

The awards banquet was held later in the evening which began at 6:30 p.m. at the host hotel. A delicious buffet dinner was enjoyed by all. President Jim Krausmann then presented the car show award plaques to the winners. Meet coordinator Ray Jones thanked me for hosting the meet. I really enjoyed organizing the meet and hope everyone had a wonderful time visiting the St. Louis-Collinsville area.
