In the afternoon, meet attendees were given the option to travel to nearby Shelby, North Carolina to visit the Combs Family Museum, which is filled with NASCAR memorabilia collected by one of the most involved families in early NASCAR history. This was followed by a meal at the famous Red Bridges BBQ. While at the Museum, there was even a moonshine tasting of locally made black cherry and peach brew. For those looking for something closer to town, Heath (our Meet Host) led a group to visit the Haywood Street Congregation Church, which is home to incredible fresco artwork, depicting the congregation of individuals served by this ministry. The Church is also a historic building, pre-dating the Biltmore Estate.

Saturday morning started with light showers to precede our car show on Asheville’s historic Motor Mile District in downtown Asheville, along Coxe Avenue. After the car dealers moved out in the 1970s, the craft breweries moved in! The street is still lined with historic car dealer buildings dating back to the 1920s. Coxe Avenue was closed for 1.5 blocks, so we could line the avenue with our cars, as well as cars from local clubs. We ended up having over 100 cars, combining vehicles from our 300 Club and the general public. The rain subsided, the sun came out and it was so lovely to see families enjoying our gathering of cars. The show was even covered on the local news! That evening, we celebrated this week of fellowship at our Banquet, as well as Mick and Martha Kreszock’s 50^th wedding anniversary, with a cake that featured their 1956 300B on it!

For those who had later flights or would be staying in Asheville an extra day or so, we took a private tour of a small local car museum called the Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum in Grovewood Village.
