In 1956, The 300B was released and all future models would be labeled with a sequential letter after the 300.
The 300B was fairly similar externally, distinguished by a new tailfin treatment, but with larger engines, two models of 354 cubic inch Hemi V-8 with either 340 or 355 HP. With the optional 355 HP 354-cubic inch engine, the 300B became the first American car to produce 1 horsepower per cubic inch.
Performance of the new 300B improved as it averaged over 90 MPH in the Daytona Grand National and hit a new record of 139.373 in the Flying Mile at Daytona Beach. The Chrysler 300B became America's Most Powerful Car.
